The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any significant prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a clamor for introducing of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it remains highly personal, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles in the world and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary game development, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
